Albi is a town in southern France. In 2010, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee recognized the significant cultural importance of the Episcopal City of Albi by including it on the prestigious World Heritage List as a cultural heritage site. More than 800 000 tourists visit the city every year.

A unique city of medieval brick unique because of its colors, its history, and its situation.

The Episcopal City is centered round two immense medieval buildings: The Saint-Cecile Cathedral, the largest brick-built cathedral in the world, and the Berbie Palace, the former fortified residence of the Albi bishops, and now the home of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum with the largest public collection of the artist’s work.

Your Hotel:

The Ibis Styles Albi Centre Le Theatro is ideally located just a stone’s throw from the historic city center as well as from the Toulouse Lautrec Museum. Rooms are equipped with air-condition, a private bathroom with a bathtub or a shower as well as free Wi-Fi.

Once you have checked in, our staff members will help you adjust your bikes before going for a short test ride on the circuit of the Time Trial (22.5 km, 14 miles). In the evening, we will gather over a welcoming cocktail, before enjoying our first meal. This will be the occasion for everyone to get to know each other and for our staff to present to you the program that is expecting you in the coming days.

Day 2: Thursday August 24th

Group: Reconnaissance part 1 of Sunday’s route / Visit of Albi
Hotel: 3* Ibis Styles

Today marks the first day of the championship. The event will start with the Individual Time Trial.
We will offer two alternatives for today’s program:

Option 1 for those taking part in the ITT: After breakfast, we will head by bike to the Albi Motor Racing Circuit, where the start will be given. Our staff members will be on hand to assist help you prepare yourself for the race and assist you throughout the day.

The award ceremony with the presentation of the World’s Champions Jerseys and medals will take place in the late afternoon.

Option 2 for those not taking part in the ITT: We will leave the hotel by bike and scout the first half of Sunday’s route. We will ride approximately 75 km (46, 6 miles).
This outing should last until noon. It will then be time to regain strengths during lunch. You will be free to lunch at your convenience before an afternoon off.

For those interested in it, we will arrange massages at the hotel.

For this afternoon’s activity, you will have several options:

Visit of the historical centre of the old town is divided into six districts; in the course of your visit you will discover the heritage, the history and the unique character of each area: important monuments, half-timbered houses, mansions from the Renaissance, inner courtyards, picturesque streets….

Visit of the Sainte Cécile Cathedral: The construction began in the 13th century and took two hundred years to complete. It is the biggest brick cathedral in the world:
113 meters long and 35 meters wide!

Visit of the La Berbie palace: The Berbie Palace, where the bishops of Albi resided, was built during the 13th century – before the construction of the Popes’ Palace in Avignon. It is one of the oldest fortified palaces in France and one of the best preserved. It is now providing an exceptional home for the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.

Visit of the Toulouse Lautrec Museum: More than 1 000 works, including his famous posters, are housed in this impressive “palace” museum. A visit to the Museum allows you to discover the evolution of this “atypical” artist with a chronological exhibition of his works.

Visit of the Lapérouse Museum: Jean-François de Galaup de Lapérouse, France’s “Captain Cook”, was born in Albi in 1741 at the Manoir du Gô. An acclaimed naval commander who took part in sea battles in the American War of Independence against the British, he was later entrusted by Louis XVI to lead an ambitious round-the world expedition.

In the evening, riders and non-riders will be invited to visit the Greed Festival on the Cathedral Sainte Cecile Esplanade, where local products and wines will be showed off. Dinner will be at your convenience.

Around 9:00pm the opening ceremony will start with speeches from the officials, the country presentation and a parade before the firework that will close the first day of the championship.

Day 3: Friday, August 25th

Group: Team Relay Race / time off
Hotel: 3* Ibis Styles

The team relay race will take place today in the late afternoon (5:00-7:00pm).

For those taking part in the relay race, we’ll take advantage of the day to do final adjustments and prepare ourselves to the best. The start and finish will take place at the Sainte Cécile Cathedral Esplanade and will take the riders around the city center.

As yesterday, our staff will be available to assist you and cheer you on.

A second group will go on a reconnaissance ride of the second half of Sunday’s race. We will leave the hotel by bus to reach a given point on the race’s route, from where the ride will start.

After the ride, our bus will take us back to the hotel. You will have the time to either lunch at the hotel or in the town before we meet again in time for our afternoon activity.

Today, we will take you to the oldest vineyard in France: the Vignoble Gaillac. The wine enthusiasts will love the age-long history of the wine, going back to the Gallo-Roman times. Although very large (the vineyard spreads over more than 70 Tarn villages and 9000 ha), the quality and trademark of the Gaillac wine are achieved through meticulous and specific winemaking methods, the result of age-long traditions. For the amateurs, wine tasting will be offered.

In the evening, participants will be invited at the VIP dinner that will be held at the Expos Park. (Registrations requested at time of registration to the race).

Later that evening, the town of Albi will present cultural scenes/animations in the center. Anyone feeling like watching the show will be welcome.
